3 arrested after failed robbery leads to drug bust in Union Co.

The Union County Sheriff's Office arrested two teens and one man after an attempted robbery revealed drug contraband on Monday afternoon.

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- The Union County Sheriff's Office arrested two teens and one man after an attempted robbery revealed drug contraband on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the incident happened at a home on the 5100 block of Chelsey Lane in the Sandalwood neighborhood.

Police received tips from concerned citizens that two males had been seen walking around outside the home wearing skull masks. After a short period of time, the two males left the home in a dark colored car only to return a short while later.

Police arrived to investigate and found one male armed with a loaded handgun. Police also found a stolen AR-15 rifle, a ballistic vest and marijuana inside the car.

After a search warrant was obtained, police searched the home on Chelsey Lane. Once inside, police found a stolen handgun, baggies of marijuana, THC extract and drug paraphernalia.

While police were at the residence, a priority mail package arrived from California addressed to the occupant of the home. The package contained nearly 450 grams of THC extract.

The teens have been identified as 18-year-old Josue Diego Martinez of Marshville and 17-year-old Kevin Manuel Arant-Melchor of Monroe.

Martinez has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and simple possession of schedule VI.

Arant-Melchor has been charged with breaking and entering and simple possession of schedule VI.

The next court appearance for Martinez and Arant-Melchor is scheduled for March 13, 2018.

The contraband found inside the Chelsey Lane home resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Zackery Keith Phifer.

Phifer has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sale or deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to sale and deliver marijuana, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen goods.

The next court appearance for Phifer is March 6, 2018.
