CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a fourth teen in connection with the deadly shooting of an east Charlotte mother during an armed robbery Tuesday morning.
CMPD responded to a reported shooting at the Vista Villa apartment complex in the 6200 block of Barrington Drive around 6:15 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman, identified as 36-year-old Maria Eduvigig Echeverria de Gomez, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.
On Wednesday, CMPD said they had charged 19-year-old Antonio Darnell Shine with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the case.
Hours after Shine's arrest, CMPD arrested 17-year-old A'vone Williams. According to CMPD, Williams was charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Early Thursday, CMPD announced that a 15-year-old was also charged for his involvement in the case. The 15-year-old, who has not been identified due to his age, was also charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
CMPD arrested a fourth teenager, later identified as 16-year-old Ziaya Jackson, on Saturday. Jackson was served with warrants for murder and robbery with dangerous weapon, CMPD said.
The victim's brother told NBC Charlotte on Tuesday that a family member was driving to the apartment complex to take her to work when shots rang out. The victim's brother said she was shot in the face and back during the robbery.
