CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters worked to put out a 2-alarm blaze in a parking deck at the Charlotte airport on Saturday morning, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
Two police officers were injured in the fire and one of them was sent to the hospital, according to the Charlotte Fire Department. Another person was also injured.
It started around 9 a.m. in the hourly parking deck at 5488 Josh Birmingham Pkwy. Airport officials say it began as a car fire.
Four cars were engulfed in flames in the deck, according to Charlotte fire officials.
There is no word yet on how it happened.
Multiple crews were on scene with smoke and fire showing from the parking deck.
According to airport officials, the hourly parking deck and valet parking were temporarily closed. They asked travelers to use other parking lots. The upper/departure level roadway was closed, but has since re-opened.
All parking operations and roadways were eventually reopened with the exception of the fourth level of the hourly parking deck.
