DALLAS, N.C. — The Gaston County Police 911 Center received a report of a fire at a residence just before 3:30 a.m. on October 5.
The residence was located at 137 Dusty Hill Road in Dallas, North Carolina.
Officials said multiple people called about the fire, including a resident who was trapped inside a bedroom. The caller described his location in the home, but the fire was quickly overtaking the room and he couldn't escape.
Fire crews worked quickly to battle the blaze but the resident was not able to be rescued in time. Jeffrey Bruce Michael, 65, died in the fire. He lived in the home, officials say.
The Gaston County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Gaston County Police Department are continuing the investigation. At this time, foul play is not suspected.
Another resident of the home says he woke up to the building on fire and tried to get people out. That resident was not elated to the man who died.
