CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An American Airlines flight from Charlotte made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Thursday morning.
RDU officials told WRAL-TV that the plane was diverted to Raleigh after reports of smoke in the cabin. The plane landed safely without further incident. American Airlines confirmed oxygen masks were not deployed during the landing. The flight was headed to Hartford, Connecticut.
"A commercial flight diverted to RDU due to reports of smoke inside the aircraft," RDU said. "The plane landed safely and was towed to a gate. RDU fire-rescue and mutual aid agencies responded to offer aid to passengers and crew. No one was transported."
The landing closed runways at RDU for about 10 minutes. American Flight 2392 touched down a little after 8:30 a.m. Two fire trucks and several emergency workers met the jet on the runway.
American Airlines issued the following statement to WCNC Charlotte:
"American Airlines flight 2392 with service from Charlotte (CLT) to Windsor Locks, Connecticut (BDL) diverted to Raleigh-Durham (RDU) due to reports of a possible odor in the cabin. The flight landed safely and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. Customers will continue on to BDL on a replacement aircraft shortly. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
