CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kayland Hagwood is an award-winning reporter and WCNC Charlotte weekend morning anchor.
She grew up in Lancaster, South Carolina and joined the WCNC-TV team in March of 2023.
She comes to Charlotte from WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina where she worked as a weekend evening anchor and investigative reporter. During her time there, Kayland covered multiple high-profile murder trials, including that of disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh, reported live from the South Carolina coast during Hurricane Ian and investigated the performance of South Carolina schools.
Before joining WLTX, Kayland worked for three years as a freelance reporter for The Lancaster News, earning a South Carolina Press Association Award. She later assisted the WLTX team in earning a STAR Award for coverage of the nationally publicized Nathaniel Rowland murder trial, which led to changes in ride-share legislation, after a University of South Carolina student mistook her Uber for the assailant.
In her free time, Kayland loves spending time with family, volunteering with local nonprofits, and speaking to aspiring journalists about the importance of the field. She is a proud University of South Carolina graduate.
