GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Belmont native, Alex Graham, auditioned for The Voice, performing in front of judges Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper in the episode that aired Tuesday night.
While Graham wasn't selected to move forward in the competition, he shared on Facebook that the process was impactful on him.
He shared on Facebook, "This show has allowed to me to grow as artist and a person in such a short time."
He said when he thinks of the experience, the following words come to mind: Grateful, inspiring, thankful, and blessed.
The 25-year-old told WCNC Charlotte Monday he didn't even have an interest in music when he was younger. After high school, he got a job as a "singing server" at Nellie's Southern Kitchen in Belmont.
"They were hiring singing servers. And up to that point, I did not sing at all," Graham explained. "And I was like, you know, what's the worst that can happen?"
Alex moved to Nashville a few years later.
"And I came out here [Nashville] a few times and met some other people around and kind of found a group of friends," Graham said. "So luckily, I had that kind of core group of friends when I moved here."
Graham couldn't reveal the results of his blind audition when he spoke to WCNC Charlotte on Monday, but he did say it was a "surreal" experience.
"The response has been amazing," Graham said. "I mean, it's nothing but love, it's fantastic."
On Facebook, Graham thanked those who have supported him through the process and urged people to continue to watch his new friends on The Voice.
