CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Flo Rida, LeAnn Rimes and Skillet are set to headline a live music festival series this summer at Carowinds, the amusement park announced Wednesday.
More than 30 performances will take place on multiple stages in the park over five weekends in July and August. Headliners will perform at the Paladium, the on-site and seldom-used amphitheatre. Local bands and emerging artists will perform on stages throughout the park.
Two-time GRAMMY® Award winner LeAnn Rimes will kick off the festival series on July 5. Two-time GRAMMY Award-nominated Skillet will perform on Aug. 2, with Flo Rida performing on Aug. 9. More artist announcements are expected in the following weeks.
“Get ready for 10 days of sensational performances that will make Carowinds the place to be this summer," Manny Gonzalez, Carowinds vice president and general manager, said. "These incredible shows are free with your park admission, guaranteeing a summer filled with entertainment and iconic thrills.”
Since 1975, the Paladium welcomed icons including Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Charlie Daniels, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige and the Temptations. The amphitheatre was transformed into a standalone concert venue in 1991.
The announcement of a new music festival comes one day after shareholders of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation voted to approve the merger with Cedar Fair, which owns Carowinds. Interest in the acquisition publicly started in 2019. Last year, the two companies announced the proposed plans to merge.
The merger will bring Six Flags' headquarters to Charlotte.
