Here's how to watch a movie this week at Cinemark theaters for just $5

The chain will celebrate by showing movies released in 1984 with tickets priced at $5.

HOUSTON — Cinemark is inviting moviegoers to celebrate its 40th anniversary with special screenings of classic films and discounted tickets.

The North Texas-based chain will celebrate by showing movies released in 1984 -- honoring the year it opened its first-ever theater. To make the deal even sweeter, tickets will be just $5.  

This anniversary event begins Monday, Aug. 12 and ends Sunday, Aug. 18.

  • August 12 – The Karate Kid
  • August 13 – The Terminator
  • August 14 – Gremlins
  • August 15 – Purple Rain
  • August 16 – Ghostbusters
  • August 17 – A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last Starfighter
  • August 18 – Footloose, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
