Cue the nostalgia!
Thanks to a toy-maker, you can relive all those frustrating hours spent on the computer trying -- and failing -- to cross the American frontier thanks to a new card game.
Recently, Pressman Toy announced the release of a tabletop version of The Oregon Trail, the classic PC game set in the 19th Century.
The multiplayer card game is a riff on the classic PC version that first gained popularity with the 1985 release for the Apple II computer in 1985, reports Mashable. Since then, there have been numerous remakes of the game.
Now, players can work together to "travel" along the trail, fording rivers and avoiding other calamities, like that dang dysentery.
A video released by the maker breaks down the rules and shows that the goal is still the same -- to survive the journey from Independence, Mo. to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. But this time, only one player can win, and players might have to "kill" each other off as part of the strategy. Those that don't make get erased from the included dry-erase board and immortalized in a hand-written epitaph, just like in the computer game.
The price won't set you back too much; it's only $12.99. The only snag, it's available only in Target stores. But hopefully, there'll be no rivers to cross to get there.
