Dave Quinn, owner of Pisgah Brewing, isn't just a fan of the 1990s cult classic, "Dumb and Dumber."

"I still quote that movie to this day," Quinn said.

That's one of the reasons he jumped at a chance to be a part of the sequel to the 1994 Jim Carrey-Jeff Daniels movie, "Dumb and Dumber To," which debuted nationwide Friday.

Pisgah Brewing makes a cameo in the film that topped the box office this weekend with more than $38 million.

The original tanks, a row of taps, poster and an extra in a Pisgah Pride hat all appear in a scene in a convention center, Quinn said.

"We were getting texts early Friday morning," he said. "It was really hard to keep this close to the chest. We signed a big non-disclosure agreement."

One of the brewery's labels caught a movie executive's attention, Quinn said. A colleague brought a bottle of the brewery's Vortex to Georgia, and shared it with some beer friends there, he said, and the bottle eventually made its way to a member of the "Dumb and Dumber To" production.

"They said the beer label was really beautiful," he said. "They originally wanted to maybe come up here and film" but it didn't work out. "So we sent tanks down there to Georgia."

The items were on loan to the production for about a month.

The Vortex label features "a kind of unique eye-catching waterfall," Quinn said. Artist Richard Biffle designed the image. Biffle also produced iconic art for Grateful Dead, as well as the Santana logo.

Quinn took the team to a screening of the film at The Carolina Asheville Friday. "As soon as we saw it, we all cheered," he said. "...It was an unparalleled-team building exercise."

The two main characters go to a sort of TED Conference, and find a brewery inside the convention center. "You see a line up of our taps and a big poster in the background," Quinn said. "The first thing you see is a guy wearing a Pisgah pride hat with the rainbow."

The main characters "con their way to free beer," which is served in a Pisgah pint glass.

He said he hopes the "ripple effect" will be that the brewery will sell a little extra merchandise for the holidays.

"For what it's worth, it's immortal," Quinn said of the appearance. "It will still be there in 20 years and we can look back."

The movie is playing in Asheville at The Carolina Asheville, Beaucatcher and Biltmore Grande. For more on Pisgah, visit the website.
