CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Freedom Hill by filmmaker Resita Cox serves as the season finale for season 16 of AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange. The film closes out the season on Monday, April 22 (Earth Day) at 8:00pm on-air on WORLD and streaming on worldchannel.org.
Resita Cox's documentary Freedom Hill profiles the town of Princeville, North Carolina and the people working to save it, as it is increasingly deluged by what were once referred to as “100-year floods” that are occurring more and more frequently due to climate change. Freedom Hill provides viewers with both an examination of the history of the town – which was the first American town chartered by formerly enslaved Black people – and its present as modern-day residents work to try to preserve their town that is threatened by floods, environmental injustice and more.
Resita Cox is a native of North Carolina, who views Freedom Hill as her first love letter to her home state, the first of what will hopefully be many films that showcase the beauty and history of North Carolina and its people.
