The world's best BMX riders are heading to Rock Hill, South Carolina, for the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Championships (May 12th -18th). Here with more are Norm McCann, UCI Consultant and Rock Hill Operation Supervisor, Mark Sexton. This prestigious event will be held at the Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track in May 2024, just ahead of the Olympic summer games this year.
An estimated 3,500 riders will represent more than 45 nations, with the elite among them vying for quota points for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. “In 2017 we had the BMX Worlds Championship here in Rock Hill; it was such a success we had to come back” says McCann. He adds “the support we’ve gotten from the people here in the Carolinas has been awesome.” “We have been prepping for this BMX world championship over a year and we are excited to once again host the event” says Sexton. He adds “the direct impact financially to the city of Rock Hill is right at 20 Million dollars and that’s not including airfare.” The field is strong. Defending their World Championship titles will be the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist from Great Britain, Bethany Shriever, and the UCI points leader from France, Romain Mahieu. Rio 2016 silver medalist Alise Willoughby will be here and she’s currently the third-ranked woman in the UCI rankings, having also earned third place overall in the World Cup and coming off second and third-place wins in Tulsa. This World Championships will be one of the final opportunities for riders to earn quota points ahead of the next Olympic Games - so the stakes are high in this one. It’s all happening in Rock hill SC. For more information visit 2024BMXWorlds.com
