Spring time is almost here and that means it's time to book a spring break, that's fun for everyone and there is no better place to do that than in beautiful Jamaica. This morning, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism, Donovan Whitejoined us from the "One Love" island to tell us what's hot and happening in one of the world's most popular destinations.  “Come one come all an escape to beautiful Jamaica”  says White.

We learned from White - the true beauty of the island of Jamaica is their people. Jamaica is a melting pot of rich culture, embodied by their national motto, “Out of Many, One People”. The island's cultural diversity is a blend of Taíno, African, Indian, Spanish, Chinese, German, Portuguese, Syrian, Lebanese, English, Irish, French, and Welsh influences that you will see in food, place names, architecture, music, dance, folklore and language.

Jamaica is an island, with a rich and vibrant history, with a long and storied past filled with struggle and the fight for equity, justice, emancipation and independence.  The saying “we likkle but we tallawah” (meaning 'we may be small, but we are strong') has long been an unofficial “motto” for Jamaicans that speaks to our resilience as a nation.  Beside the natural beauty Jamaica is hosting Carnival.

Jamaica Carnival is a vibrant and colorful celebration that brings together music, costumes, dance, and the island’s spirit. Below are the details you need to know:

  • Jamaica Carnival usually takes place from Easter Sunday until the following weekend. In 2024, the Jamaica Carnival will be held from April 3 to April 9.
  • The festivities occur mainly in the center of Kingston, as well as the Ocho Rios resort areas and Montego Bay. The four major masquerade bands are based in Kingston, with one in Ocho Rios.
  • Jamaica Carnival is a fusion of incredible food, music (including reggae, soca, and calypso), colorful costumes, rum, and dance. The highlight is the National Carnival Road March, an electric masquerade parade featuring competing mas bands. Thousands of revelers dance in stunning costumes, and the whole island joins in the celebration.

So mark your calendar for this high-energy celebration, and get ready to experience the time of your life in Jamaica!  And if you can’t make Carnival but can attend at another date Jamaica is a beautiful place. Don’t forget to enjoy what Jamaica has to offer – Natural Wonders.  From the majestic Blue Mountains to the turquoise waters that caress its shores, Jamaica boasts an array of breathtaking natural wonders that will captivate your senses and leave you in awe.  Nestled in the heart of Jamaica, the Blue Mountains stand tall, offering a majestic backdrop for nature enthusiasts. As you hike through their verdant trails, you'll encounter a tapestry of exotic flora and fauna. The mist-kissed peaks provide the perfect environment for coffee plantations, allowing visitors to indulge in the world-renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.
