CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 53 million Americans currently providing unpaid care for aging or ill loved ones—and an estimated 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The documentary Wine, Women, & Dementia is essential to helping those who care for these people who struggle.
With over 16 million unpaid family caregivers in the U.S. facing the emotional, physical, and financial toll of caring for loved ones with dementia, Wine, Women, & Dementia offers an intimate and unflinching look into their world.
Directed and written by Kitty Norton, the documentary explores the beauty, brutality, humor, and heartbreak of dementia care, told from the perspective of caregivers who find strength and community in each other.
The documentary premiered on November 2nd on select PBS stations and the PBS App, Wine, Women, & Dementia aligns with National Caregivers Awareness Month, providing a timely and powerful narrative on a national crisis. The film sheds light on the lack of resources available to caregivers, urging audiences and policymakers to rethink how society supports those navigating the dementia journey.
