Charlotte Roller Derby Skate School starts this weekend

Join in to learn the ropes of roller derby

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Roller Derby is a skater-owned and operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2006. In addition to bringing the sport of roller derby to Charlotte, they also serve in the community through volunteerism, donations, and partnerships with other local charitable organizations.

Skater School is a 9-week in-person training series focused on roller skating skills needed to play roller derby. There will be an emphasis on getting comfortable, stable, and safe on roller skates, and then participants will work their way up roller derby skating skills.

Skater School is for anyone who wants to learn to skate! They welcome all genders and skating skill levels, ages 18 and up. Even if you’re not interested in playing roller derby, there are many other avenues after Skater School, like becoming a referee (skating official) or NSO (non-skating official). Skater School will be held every Sunday, 8 AM to 10 AM at Kate’s Skating Rink in Indian Trail from October 13th through December 8th. Charlotte Roller Derby will kick off with an informational session on Sunday, October 13th and the first practice will be on Sunday, October 20th. Registration is only $100 for the entire 9-week series! You will need squad skates and protective gear (a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards) but they also have rental gear available for an additional $25.

Charlotte Roller Derby's  final home bout of the season will be Thursday, October 24th at 7 PM at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte. You can get tickets online at CharlotteRollerDerby.org
