September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Help the Isabella Santos Foundation raise money and awareness for Pediatric Cancer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — September is 'Childhood Cancer Awareness Month' and the Isabella Santos Foundation (ISF) has a great opportunity to help raise funds and awareness. Here with all the details we have Hailey Rorie and Katy Ryan. The Isabella Santos Foundation is committed to raising awareness and funds for rare pediatric cancers across our region” says Rorie. ISF was established by the Santos family in 2007 after Isabella fought neuroblastoma for five years until all of her treatment options were exhausted. She passed away at the tender age of seven and this is the stark reality for many children with rare cancers.

Throughout September, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Isabella Santos Foundation is inviting the community to advocate for children battling cancer. Through the Go for Gold campaign, local businesses are spotlighting the urgent need for awareness around rare cancers and providing crucial support to affected families.

This month, they are also shining a spotlight on six rare cancer heroes, each at a different stage of their journey. The stories are a powerful and a reminder of the incredible resilience and courage it takes to fight for their lives – and the ongoing need for community support. The statistics are startling too.

On today's show, we learned, pediatric cancers remain the leading cause of death by disease for children under 14 and only 8% of federal funding is allocated toward childhood cancer research and treatments. Families often face the unimaginable while navigating these rare diseases. ISF strives to not only fund innovative research but also to support the children and their families throughout every step of their journey.

Here's how you can help: Take part in the Go Gold at Goldie's event September 30th at 6pm – 9pm. ISF is making it easier than ever to join our fight. They’re hosting an end-of-month celebration at Goldie’s Charlotte, featuring a lively atmosphere with bar bites and brews, signature cocktails and a live performance by Southside Watt.

It’ll be a fun night out for friends or colleagues while supporting ISF’s mission. Attendees will also have the chance to enter to win exciting raffle prizes—all while contributing to an amazing cause. To close out Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and honor Isabella Santos, the Charlotte Skyline will be lit up in purple and gold. This tribute is a powerful visual reminder of our united effort to support children battling rare cancers. ISF needs the community’s support more than ever—whether through donations, attending our events or even just helping spread awareness. Every dollar counts! The funds raised are directly supporting cutting-edge research that could save lives and improve treatment options for children facing rare cancers. Looking ahead ISF is also excited to be planning their biggest event of the year—the annual ISF Gala. February 28th 2025; where they'll continue the fight to find a cure for rare pediatric cancers.
