Follow the journey of Hollowell, and learn where she's headed next

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This morning we welcomed a bit of royalty into the Charlotte Today studios.

Miss Statesville Teen, Kamryn Hollowell...sharing what it was like to be crowned Miss North Carolina Teen this past weekend.

Hollowell sharing, she'd been dreaming of this opportunity since she was 8 years old, and will now go on  to compete for the title of Miss America’s Teen. “I have not come down from this awesome high of winning the Miss NC Teen” says Hollowell. She adds “I’ve worked so hard and invested so much time to get here and I finally made it. Having started in the organization eight years ago as a Carolina Star, and now as a Teen, I can’t wait to empower teens across the state as well as the next generation of Stars. I have a story, and I am ready to share it.” She continues “community service is a big part of my platform.”

When Kamryn was 9 years old, she decided to start advocating for IBD in support of her mother, who had been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Kamryn sharing...she had seen the numerous doctor and hospital visits that accompanied this diagnosis, and knew she had to find ways to lessen the impact on other families. Since then, Hollowell has raised funds and increased awareness through her Project Purple initiative. She has been able to partner with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation – Carolinas Chapter, raise over $5,000 for further research and treatment of IBD, speak with legislators on Capitol Hill on multiple trips, and spoken with North Carolina Representatives about her strategy. “The future is bright and I can’t wait to tackle it head on” says Hollowell.

One of the highlights of the competition, came when Hollowell performed her Talent Portion... clogging to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia".  For Hollowell we learned it was more than just dance, she loved the fact it tapped into North Carolina's rich history, and also that Charlie Daniels ("The Devil Went Down to Georgia) had ties to North Carolina as well!

As the new Miss NC Teen, she received $7,500 in Scholarship money, and also won preliminary evening gown award and the community service impact scholarship...in addition to the title as Miss North Carolina's Teen.
