Spring is here and soon it will be summer, now is a great time to do a little cleaning and donating...and Goodwill can help. Joining us this morning were Sam Story and Kiyosha Jones from Goodwill. “Goodwill is more than just donations” says Story. When you donate to Goodwill – whether it be items from your home you no longer need or a monetary gift – you are helping people in our community get the training and support they need to find employment. Because of your generosity, we were able to provide services to more than 9,000 people who needed help developing job skills and finding employment last year. Your donations truly change lives and help fund the career center and its various programs. When you visit a Goodwill Career Center, you’re treated as more than just a number. You’re a person with unique skills, interests and desires. Our Career Centers offer computer access, resume review, job search support, course enrollment, family stability assistance, the opportunity to meet with a career navigator and more!
“I am a product of taking advantage of the IT training offered by Goodwill” says Jones. She adds “I was encouraged by my mom to do the program, and once I completed the program; I started working as a software engineer in IT. Goodwill has truly change my life.”
“That’s what we are known for helping people find work” says Story. She adds “that was the focus of the mission statement written 50 years ago. But a lot has changed since then, and what we do goes far beyond employment. Over the years, we adapted our services to meet the evolving needs of our community." Goodwill's purpose shifted to helping people see possibilities, seize opportunities and prosper. And as our aspirations have grown, we believe our mission, vision and values should grow with us.
This Saturday, May 11th, Goodwill encourages you to drop off donations at the Charlotte Premium Outlets.
You can contribute any lightly used items such as apparel, furniture, equipment, instruments and more. For more information visit goodwillsp.org.
