CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The spooky season of Halloween has arrived, and it isn’t cheap!
If you feel like Halloween is expensive this year, you’re not alone. In 2024, total Halloween spending is expected to reach $11.6 billion, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. 72% of people will participate in Halloween-related activities this year.
With Halloween now just 11 days away, we sat down with Juliana O'Rork the Better Business Bureau (BBB) - to share steps you can take to 'celebrate Halloween on a budget'.
O'Rork's first piece of advice: don't feel you have to break the bank on a costume - look around your house and see what you can use to come up with a DIY costume. Another option she recommends, renting a costume. Speaking of renting a costume or event buying one, you want to make sure you understand the return policy of the store...before making the purchase.
When it comes to candy that can also be a big expense...that's why the BBB recommends buying candy in bulk...it can really help you save money.
Another important reminder is be sure to be safe, if you choose to shop online. Halloween can be fun, don't ruin that fun by falling victim to a scam.
