History and theater lovers get ready for “I Am Queen Charlotte" is returning to the Belk Theater on March 3rd, at 7pm. The one night spectacular, features an amazing cast of black female actors sharing unique stories.  Joining us today's show to tell us more were producer playwright, executive director Hannah Hasan and director, Chanel Blanchett.

It all started with an idea for a book when Photographer and About Face CLT leader Scott Gardner approached me with an idea to capture the stories of Black women in Charlotte in photograph and prose for a fine art book” says Hasan. She adds “from there, the idea expanded to making this celebration of Black women accessible to the broader Charlotte community by curating an experience including art & performance, educational resources and events.”

I Am Queen Charlotte is a stage show created by two Black women to share stories about Black women. The Epoch Tribe duo has been telling the stories of marginalized communities for nearly 15 years, but it’s the stories of Black people that are the cornerstone of their work. I Am Queen Charlotte is an opportunity to widen the scope of what it’s like to live, love and evolve as Black women through their own voices against the backdrop of stunning visuals and sounds, live and onstage. It’s an experience that exudes excitement and warmth. “This show really is amazing with an incredible vibe” says Blanchett. She adds “the way it shares real, all new stories of black women who make charlotte great really captures the audience attention.” The show is something you don’t want to miss.  You’ll experience stories, music and sound, movement and more delivered by an all-Black ensemble cast of actors. It’s a deeply complex show that will take you on a journey you won’t forget.  The dress code is regal. What is regal? “Whatever makes you feel like royalty” says Hasan. She continues "expect to see a crowd decked out in their finest of finery, so come ready to show up and show out." Tickets are still available.
