“I Believe in You” – Johnnie Taylor Legendary R&B Singer

Learn about R&B singer Johnnie Taylor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This morning in our entertainment spotlight, we're talking about a new book called "I Believe in You" about Legendary R&B singer Johnnie Taylor.
Here with more is his daughter Fonda Bryant. “I Believe in You is a book that uncovers the story of my legendary dad” says Bryant. She adds “I’m hoping this book will put more spotlight on Johnnie Taylor the singer, and get him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” “My dad made Black history by being the first EVER artist to have a platinum record certified by the (RIAA) Recording Industry Association of America.” “His song Disco Lady was the first ever platinum record and he appeared on American Bandstand April 3rd 1976 to debut his song.” Many of the young musician today owe a debt of gratitude to my Johnnie Taylor, for he is credited with how platinum records are done today.” His song "Who's Makin Love", sold 1 MILLION records in SIX weeks, and 2 MILLION records by the time it ran its course. Johnnie Taylor was the #1 selling artists at STAX Records, out selling then R&B great Otis Redding. Johnnie Taylor and Otis Redding were best of friends and as matter of fact at Otis Redding’s funeral, Johnnie Taylor was a pallbearer and sang a song in honor of Otis Redding. “On May 5th, 2024, STAX Records and the Memphis Music Lab celebrated my father's 90th birthday, and him getting a Brass Music Note” says Bryant. Check out the book “I Believe in You” and make sure to stop by for a free signing by the author Greg Hasty on June 29th from 1pm – 4pm at REPO records, 3325 Commonwealth Avenue.
