Jennifer Grant joined Charlotte Today to raise awareness for Stiff Person's Syndrome

Celine Dion recently spoke out about having the same condition

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Stiff Person’s Syndrome has been relatively unheard of prior to Celine Dion’s public announcement, so Jennifer Grant joined Charlotte Today on Monday to shed some light on this condition and share her experience with it.

According to the Rare Diseases website, stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare acquired neurological disorder that most often causes progressive muscle stiffness (rigidity) and repeated episodes of painful muscle spasms.

Grant first started dealing with this condition in 1998 and it started very slowly. "I would start to have things not work properly... and I would be on crutches today and maybe be fine tomorrow," Grand said.

She says that in 2015 she caught a stomach bug that then caused her condition to become chronic and has never gone back. She gets infusions every week to stay healthy, and hopes to raise awareness to this condition, and encourage people to fight for their health.
