CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thompson & Son Energy Solutions is a local, veteran-owned solar-energy company out of Concord, NC since 2014. Their primary focus is installation and service of residential and light commercial solar in the Carolinas.
Brad Griffith, employee of Thompson & Son Energy Soluations, says his mother-in-law knew they had a FB group helping homeowners with free diagnostic, remote fixes, and DIY repair advice. She saw the article on WCNC and sent Griffith the story. He sent it to Founder and CEO John Powell late one night, because he knew they could help. By the next day, John had found them on FB and set up a time to meet. A few days after that they were all fixed up and ready to go.
The last few years since COVID have been really rough on Solar. Lots of companies have gone out of business because of interest rates and regulatory changes making it more difficult and expensive for homeowners to go Solar. When done right, solar should save you money with a predictable monthly payment that’s never going to go up like your power bill. The Lees went solar to save money and help the environment. They’ll be doing both now that their system is up and running.
Juggling support for homeowners in need and managing a small business's limitations is tough, according to Thompson & Son. Due to resource constraints, they can't assist every homeowner, yet. They're hopeful that teaming up with like-minded companies and organizations can make a big impact, benefiting homeowners and the environment by starting a GoFundMe to cover low or no-cost repairs for needy families. Quite often, the parts are under a warranty that doesn’t cover labor. Complex electrical work can get into the thousands of dollars really quickly.
Thompson & Son Energy Solutions has a screener form that will be up on their FB Page, 'Resilient Suns.' There is a link to the GoFundMe on the Facebook page. They are going to start with a paper and video application, and they hope to get a bunch of applications and start going after the low-hanging fruit like the warranty repairs to get the systems up and running again; Producing power, saving money, and helping the environment.
