CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Match Game returns for another summer at Charlotte Ballet and here with more from One Voice Chorus is Brian Dubois, board member and Micah Deer Executive Director. One Voice Chorus brings lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and LGBTQIA+ affirming people together to celebrate our lives in song. Since 1989, when five Charlotteans met to form the Chorus, One Voice has grown into an important source of strength for our community. The 25 singers at our first rehearsal in January, 1990 have become a joyous and dedicated group of over 70 singers, support members and paid musical staff. One Voice is the LGBTQIA+ and allies chorus of Charlotte. Through artistic excellence, One Voice Chorus works to increase understanding and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people. “No skill necessary to take part in the audition process” says Deer. He adds “the Match Game: From Rags to Riches is reminiscent of the Match Game show format in the 1970’s,”
In the 70’s, Match Game was a popular game show featuring a panel of celebrities. Celebrities were first asked questions prior to the start of the round, and then contestants were asked the same questions and attempted to “match” the answers the celebrities had come up with. The popular show RuPaul’s Drag Race also features a version of Match Game cheekily called “Snatch Game.” Well, this is One Voice’s version of the Match Game, featuring local drag entertainers and interspersed with song and dance.
“Match Game returns for another summer at Charlotte Ballet! and my favorite part is orchestrating and arranging the acts that will best serve the LGBTQ+ community” says Dubois. This show, which is almost an all-out, irreverent musical theater production, includes costumes, choreography, and a panel of fabulous drag panelists for our Match Game sequences. “You don’t want to miss this event and $1 dollar of every tickets sold goes to support the Plus Collective which helps groups affiliated with the LGBTQ+ community” says Dubois..
