One travel trend that is growing in popularity is planning multi-generational family vacations. Here with some vacation inspiration is travel expert and journalist Dalia Colón. “I’m teaming up with visit Florida to share suggestions for taking a fun family trip to the sunshine state” says Colón. She adds “...multi-generational vacations are the newest trend, and Florida’s rich culture, natural beauty, diverse cuisine, and enchanting destinations make it the perfect destination for a family vacation."

Here are some multi-generational vacation ideas:

Crystal River

Crystal River, about 90 minutes north of Tampa, is a haven for anglers and nature lovers with seemingly endless opportunities to enjoy all the Gulf Coast has to offer.  As one of the few places where visitors can snorkel with manatees, water and boating activities abound. Fish from a charter boat off the Gulf, a kayak on Kings Bay, or the pier at Fort Island Gulf Beach. To learn more about the local flora and fauna, take a family-friendly eco-tour on a pontoon boat at Crystal River Preserve State Park.

Little Havana

From South Beach, Wynwood and Coconut Grove to Little Haiti, Overtown and the Design District, Miami is an ethnic archipelago, with each island-like neighborhood possessing its own personality and pleasures. But if you want to experience the Magic City’s syncopated heart then follow the aroma of fresh-brewed café Cubano and the rhythms of pachanga to Little Havana.  “If you want to know the real Miami, you must go to Little Havana,” says Colon.

Amelia Island

Amelia Island is Florida's northernmost barrier island and is only 13 miles long and one-and-a-half miles wide. Its long, deserted ... for overnight lodging and weekly vacations. The historic Seaport of Fernandina anchors the north end of the island. This quaint village provides over 20 superior restaurant choices and walk around browsing in small shops.  Enjoy a real Florida adventure! Plan to spend your next Amelia Island adventure on a fun and scenic kayak trip with your family. There are two charters of Amelia Island and the Cumberland Island area. Every day is an adventure on Amelia Island.

Fort Clinch State Park

Fort Clinch State Park in the northeast corner of Florida encompasses 1,400 acres of maritime hammock, live oak-lined hiking and biking trails and beautiful beaches along the north tip of Fernandina. Plus, 62 campsites for RV or tent camping offer a variety of opportunities to experience nature and history. The park is also home to Civil War-era Fort Clinch, which had strategic importance during the Civil War. Guests can explore the historic fort, attend living history programs or experience a reenactment of life at the fort during the live cannon firing and battlefield skills demos on the first Saturday of the month. For visitors with disabilities: All of the park's beach access boardwalks and building are ADA-accessible with several viewing platforms along the boardwalks. The park has standard and all-terrain wheelchairs available for guests with mobility issues. Please contact the park in advance to reserve this equipment.

Martin County

Escape the crowds and discover the pristine beauty of Martin County—one of South Florida's best-kept secrets. This idyllic hideaway and one-of-a-kind attractions. Discover everything Martin County has to offer while creating memories that will last far longer than tan lines. Visitors can now register for free guided eco-tours. “I cannot forget golf because it is something my husband loves doing in Martin County” says Colon. The Martin County Golf Club is part of the Florida Historic Golf Trail, a collection of about 50 golf courses.
