CHARLOTTE, N.C. — All week long we've been talking "NCRLA Chef Showdown. This morning we were joined by one of the finalists in the pastry division. Chef Mary Jayne Wilson is joining us from "Thoughtful Baking Company" in Charlotte.
Mary Jayne is one of 5 pastry chefs who are 2024 Chef Showdown Finalists. Her background in Classical French Baking has led her to showcase some wonderful foods. Mary Jayne Wilson's journey into Classic French baking has allowed her to make and create some incredibly delicious foods.
Classic French Baking includes foods like bread and pastries: baguettes, croissants and Pain au Chocolat. It’s that background that has served her well in this year’s competition. “My love for food continued to grow as did my experience in various independently owned Charlotte restaurants and bakeries and finally settling on the Thoughtful Baking Company. In 2019, I was runner up in the NCRLA Chef Showdown competition and I am so excited to be a finalist in the 2024 NCRLA Chef Showdown. I am inspired by the ever-changing offerings in seasonal produce, especially food coming from my home state of North Carolina.”
Wilson adding: “I believe in living with compassion, love a challenge, and never give up. I strive to bring all of this together to create food that is simple, delicious and highlights the quality of local ingredients. The dish I have prepared is called “Charlotte” and the ingredients meet the criteria of being locally sourced. There are some amazing finalist with some outstanding dishes in the competition and I hope that this year I’m able to walk away with the crown.”
