The annual Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge features some of the top canine athletes competing in unique events. Airing on September 8 on NBC, viewers can check out the amazing dogs competing in events like high-flying disc routines, head-to-head weave pole racing, large and small dog agility courses and the fan-favorite – diving dog – where dogs run and leap off a 40-foot dock into a 19,000-gallon pool of water, plus the surf dog competition. The Incredible Dog Challenge not only showcases the extraordinary abilities of canine athletes from across the country, but also the incredible bonds they share with their humans on and off the field. That’s why nationally renowned veterinarian Dr. RuthAnn Lobos is saluting all the competitors in this spectacular competition.

Kentucky Gallahue & Derby a San Diego-based surf dog team for the past eight years. Kentucky adopted Derby at just one year old. Together, they made the cross-country road trip from Atlanta, GA to San Diego, CA. Ocean Beach Dog Beach is where Kentucky and Derby picked up their first surfboard and hit the waves. Seven years later, Derby is most known for his ability to stay on the board while surfing and his signature blue mohawk and sunglasses. After six years of competing at the Incredible Dog Challenge’s Western Regionals, the duo is retiring from the competition.
