CHARLOTTE, N.C. — According to their website, The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte is an approved 501(c)3 non-profit, family support organization. The goal of the DSA of Greater Charlotte and its' families is to enable individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential and become respected members of their community.
Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to join The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte with their 12th annual 3-2-1 Dash for Down Syndrome 5k and Fun Run. You can enjoy the Health and Wellness Fair and celebrate World Down Syndrome Day with them following festivities at Elevation Church-Blakeney.
For World Down Syndrome Day, they urge people across the globe to unite and #EndTheStereotypes.
Stereotypes can severely hinder individuals with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, preventing them from being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Often, they are viewed as children, underestimated, and excluded from various opportunities.
They hope people go beyond merely raising awareness about Down syndrome and commit to presuming competence at all times. By doing so, we can dismantle harmful stereotypes and ensure that every individual is valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
