CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Wells Fargo Championship is in a few days and Gary Soba Tournament Director at Quail Hollow Country Club joined Charlotte Today. “This tournament is already gathering so much momentum and has always been a marquee event in the city of charlotte” says Soba. He adds “this is a great thing for golf fans and our city.”
The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship will be one of eight Signature Events on the PGA TOUR schedule, joining Sentry Tournament of Champions, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday and the Travelers Championship.
The field for the Wells Fargo Championship is expected to be approximately 70-80 players with eligibility categories including: Top 50 from the previous season’s FedExCup standings, Top 10 available and not otherwise exempt from current FedExCup standings, Top five available and not otherwise exempt FedExCup points earners from the previous signature event (RBC Heritage), if not exempt from these categories current-year tournament winners and PGA TOUR members in the top 30 of the Official World Golf Ranking, and four sponsor exemptions who are PGA TOUR members.
There will be no cut. So, fans can expect to see players compete at Quail Hollow Club for all four days. The winner will receive 700 FedExCup points and the total purse will be $20 million.
The Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Country Club is also heavily invested in the community. This year championship once again will feature a celebrity $100k Putting Challenge. The winnings will be split between the winning celebrity charity and Levine Children's Hospital. “This is a great event and allows us to give back tour our wonderful community” says Soba.
