CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A multi-billion dollar industry is set to break records in Charlotte this year.
City leaders are looking to build on the entertainment scene with high-profile entertainers and sports matchups drawing big crowds.
“Last year, we had the 10 biggest event nights in Uptown in our history, and we did it before that in ’22, so I predict that in ’24 we’ll set some records again," Michael Smith with Charlotte Center City Partners said.
Southern Entertainment has been organizing events in Charlotte since the 1990s. They're hoping to see the city recognized among the music greats, like Nashville and New York City.
"Charlotte's geographic position is great as artists go on tours and routes," Mike Stephens with Southern Entertainment said. "And Charlotte has a great infrastructure, obviously a great airport, great hotels. So, in the in the big scheme of things, Charlotte makes sense and continues to grow for large entertainers.”
Beyoncé, Luke Combs, and Drake are just some of the major performers to take the stage in the Queen City last year. This year, Charlotte enters a new era - hosting Lovin' Life Music Fest, the city's first three-day music festival, in May with acts like Post Malone and Stevie Nicks performing.
“It's going to be three days of unbelievable music, world-class acts," Stephens said.
