CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Now that spring has sprung, it's softball season in the Queen City!
The Carolina Senior Sports Association is now in its 18th season for softball! 22 teams in the Charlotte area play Tuesdays and Thursdays. They also participate in a monthly tournament, usually held on a Saturday.
The group asked WCNC Charlotte anchor Jane Monreal to sing the Star-Spangled Banner as well as throw out the first pitch for opening day at Park Road Park Tuesday night!
The league got its start in 2007 according to its website, starting with just six teams. It grew to 20 by 2014 and was formally incorporated as a nonprofit that year. The association is split into a Tuesday league and a Thursday league. Tuesday games are for players aged 50 and above while Thursday games are geared for ages 62 and older.
