CONCORD, N.C. — The National Hot Rod Association, also known as NHRA, is set to fire up its engines this weekend at the zMax Dragway in Concord
WCNC Charlotte's Larry Sprinkle visited the track with defending world champ Ron Capps to go for a practice ride.
When asked what it’s like to go from zero to 100 miles per hour in less than one second, Capps said that he and other drivers' “organs are moving around and it's probably what keeps him young.”
This is the first of two races the dragway will host. The second race is in October.
Each ticket also comes with a pit pass, which allows spectators to visit drivers and their vehicles before each race. Children under 12 are free with a paying adult.
Charlotte Motor Speedway officials said “the stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series turn the zMax Dragway into a 44,000-horsepower festival of nitro in the NHRA Four-Wide National. Race competitions will include top fuel, funny cars, super stock, and factory stock.
