YORK, S.C. — Just three years ago, Chris Holbert and his wife, Kelly, took a rundown, old grocery store building and turned it into what is now the very popular Yorkville Marketplace. Located in downtown York, South Carolina, their slogan is “York’s Shopping Experience." What you would normally find at a massive mall in a larger town, is available here in the heart of York’s historical downtown.
People come from all across York County and view deals on items for any age group. The owners said their market has become a social gathering place where families spend time shopping, have a good meal, and hang out.
The marketplace sells a large variety, including pet supplies, antique furniture, fancy jewelry, and even has a golf shop featuring a putting green.
The Congress Street Café is another big part of the Yorkville Marketplace. Stephen Pacello, the owner and operator, said his menu features a huge selection for all ages. He serves up sandwiches, salads, cheeses, and local meats.
Events are another important part of the 12,000-square feet market. The Carolina Jeep Jam is scheduled for July 15 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Those with jeeps - classic or new - are invited to join the show, which is located in the parking lot.
More information about the live music, shopping, food, and beverage offerings of the market, can be found on their website.
