'We love this city' | Brewery sends out 'General Growler' to help folks in flood areas

"The damage is real, and we are always happy to help wherever we can," Sugar Creek Brewing posted on social media.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sugar Creek Brewing sent out its "General Growler" to help folks in need in flooded areas along the Catawba River on Monday.

The brewery owners, who are veterans, posted video and pictures of the military-style truck driving through floodwaters on social media.

"We even helped a family of otters get out of the flood zones," the post read.

Co-owner Eric Flanigan told NBC Charlotte they stopped traffic to let the animals cross the road near McAdenville.

They drove the former Desert Storm vehicle in the Mountain Island Lake and Belmont areas from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering whatever help was needed.

"We passed out some waters and cruised through all the neighborhoods on both sides of the river to be sure everyone was staying dry," Flanigan said. "People smiled more than anything seeing the truck."

Flanigan told NBC Charlotte "General Growler" was mainly usually used for special events as well as pickups and deliveries of things other than beer because it's not refrigerated.

However, the brewery owners, who are Charlotte natives, saw an opportunity to put the truck to good use in a bad situation.

"The damage is real, and we are always happy to help wherever we can," the post read.

"We love this city," Flanigan added.
