BOONE, N.C. — The Bare Bones Boutique in Boone has one purpose: the care and shelter of the animals at the Watauga Humane Society.
Bare Bones opened back in March 2012 and has become a popular shopping destination for people in the High Country. Once people come by once, they're likely to return for more bargains.
Bare Bones offers the community a place to bring gently used items that bring in the much-needed funding for all of the animals at the shelter. Donations are tax-deductible and the supply of bargains never runs low.
What can you find at the Bare Bones Boutique? A wide variety of furniture, clothing for all ages, special collectibles, household items and more. Justin Vander, the executive director of the Watauga Humane Society, says the business is invaluable when it comes to taking care of the shelter animals.
Vander says the money generated by sales at Bare Bones can be used for anything because the proceeds are unrestricted. That means the shelter can use the money for everything from microchips to emergency care and immunizations.
Donations and volunteers are vitally important to the operation of the Bare Bones Boutique. When caring for almost 2,000 animals each year, the old saying that it takes a village definitely applies. The Watauga Humane Society is always looking for volunteers, whether it's for hands-on help with the animals or public outreach, there's always a need.
