ASHEBORO, N.C. — Anana, the North Carolina Zoo's 24-year-old female polar bear, celebrated International Polar Bear Day with lots of treats and visitors on Tuesday.
Anana was born at the Seneca Park Zoo in New York in 1999 and became a part of the North Carolina Zoo's family in 2014.
According to Anana's keepers, she's a princess! Her grandmother was named Princess, so it must run in the family. The North Carolina Zoo's Polar Bear keepers are always creating fun and unique ways to keep Anana active.
For International Polar Bear Day, Anana enjoyed lots of special treats, including "an ice treat packed with strawberries fish and carrots," popcorn and other yummy polar bear favorites.
As an Arctic Ambassador Center with Polar Bears International, the North Carolina Zoo works to teach guests about conservation and reducing carbon footprints.
People can also support conservation efforts by visiting the North Carolina Zoo. A portion of the admission ticket to the zoo goes towards supporting wildlife conservation.
