WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — The Watauga Humane Society is asking for the public's help finding a forever home for one of its sweetest, most patient residents.
Meet Kai, an 8-year-old dog who's been at the shelter for 333 days. His heartbreaking story sets him apart from most of the shelter's animals. He had a home, a loving dad and "all the belly rubs he could ask for," but one day things changed, and Kai found himself at the shelter.
And he was struggling big time. After a brief period, where he made the most of the situation, shelter staff noticed a change in his demeanor as no one showed interest in him.
"Sadly, days turned into weeks and weeks into months," the shelter posted on Facebook. "Here we are, almost a year later and we aren't sure how much our hearts can bear. We have watched him deteriorate and become unsettled. He is sad, brokenhearted, stressed and lonely."
Kai is a well-trained dog who won't require much work, the shelter said. He's housebroken and only cares about three things: naps, beds and toys stuffed with peanut butter. And he loves to dress up. His favorite person at the shelter raved about his patience and gentle nature when taking treats.
Despite all the positives Kai brings, the shelter's had little interest thus far in finding his forever home. That's why they're turning to Facebook in their quest to find the right fit for this sweet, lovable pup.
"Kai is so deserving of a happy ending, and we would do just about anything to give him just a taste of that," the shelter's post says.
