CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The big day is finally here.
No, not the NFL Draft. Shake Shack, one of New York’s most iconic burger spots, has made its debut in the Queen City.
With their famous burgers, crinkle-cut fries, milkshakes and, of course, the ShackSauce, there’s no question the buzz surrounding Shake Shack has been building since it was announced the restaurant was coming to Charlotte.
The new restaurant, which is located in the Park Road Shopping Center, officially opened its doors at 11 a.m. Thursday. Customers began lining up for the grand opening as early as 2 a.m.! The first 100 people inside got free swag courtesy of Shake Shack.
So, how does Shake Shack describe itself?
“We’re a modern-day roadside burger stand, we serve 100-percent all-natural angus beef, we spin custard fresh every day,” said ____. “It’s all about the people that work here and the great vibes in the restaurant.”
Shake Shack started in 2001 in New York City as a hot dog cart. Now, it’s ShackBurgers, ShackSauce and tasty shakes are famous around the world.
Before the doors opened, NBC Charlotte was given a behind-the-scenes look at how the ShackBurgers are made. It starts with the buttered bun, then the beef patty which is topped with melted American cheese. Next comes two slices of tomato, carefully cut lettuce and the best ingredient of all, that secret ShackSauce.
Perhaps the best part of the new location is what sets it apart from the rest. Shake Shack partnered with Suarez Bakery to create the “Pie Oh My” concrete. And when you get addicted to the tasty dessert, you’ll feel better knowing that a portion of the proceeds from every “Pie Oh My” benefits Loaves and Fishes of Mecklenburg County.
They’ve even teamed up with the 704 Shop for localized merchandise including hats, sunglasses and koozies.

If you aren’t able to make it out to the Park Road opening, Shake Shack announced they’re opening a second Charlotte location in Blakeney later this year.
