'I made this rock for you' | CMPD officer touched by little girl's act of kindness

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A little rock went a long way for a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer this week.

Genie Read made a Facebook post about the act of kindness bestowed upon her husband, James Wolfe.

She said he was on his way to work one night when he stopped at a gas station to get an energy drink. That's when a minivan pulled up, and the driver, Nicole Morrison, asked if her little girl could give him something.

"Her daughter said, 'I made this rock for you,'" Read wrote.

"As my husband was looking at it, he told me he had to hold back the tears, and he was so grateful for what this little girl had done," wrote Read.

She said her husband gave the girl, Lily Morrison-Smith, some tokens of appreciation from his cruiser. Then he hugged the 7-year-old and went on his way.

"He was very grateful just to get this rock and it touched his heart in many ways," Read wrote.

The post went viral with nearly 7,000 likes and almost 2,000 shares. Read said she's been contacted by people from all over the country.

"Everyone should be able to take away something from this story," she said. "A little rock from a little girl to my husband who was so heartfelt in receiving this at a time that we have so much negativity about our law enforcement officers."

Morrison told NBC Charlotte she and her daughter, who live in Mooresville, have been "rocking" officers on duty for about a year and a half.

"It’s our way of supporting LEOs (law enforcement officers) and just letting them know that we are grateful for all they do," she said.

Morrison said Officer Jordan Sheldon, who was gunned down during a traffic stop last weekend, received at least one of their rocks in the past.

"He was an amazing officer," she said.
