YouDay: Distractions are not your refuge

Coach LaMonte shares staying busy isn't the best way to find peace.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the chaotic dance of life, it's all too easy to seek refuge in distractions, to bury our pain beneath the constant clamor of activity. We convince ourselves that by keeping busy, by filling every moment with tasks and errands, we can outrun the shadows of our past.

But the truth is far more insidious: distractions, far from offering solace, only serve to deepen the wounds we're too afraid to confront.

Have you ever paused to consider why we find ourselves perpetually engulfed in a whirlwind of activity? Why do we hop from one task to the next with feverish urgency? It's because the moment we stop, the moment we allow the silence to settle, we're confronted with experiences and emotions we're simply not ready to face.

So, we keep moving, keep running, in a desperate bid to escape the pain that lurks just beneath the surface.

But there comes a time when we can no longer outrun our demons when the weight of our burdens becomes too heavy to bear. That time is now. Now is the time to cast aside the crutch of distractions and embark on the journey of healing. The longer we avoid facing our pain, the longer we deprive ourselves of the chance to embrace a fresh start, to carve out a new path toward happiness and fulfillment.
