LAKE NORMAN OF CATAWBA, N.C. — Lights and holiday decorations are everywhere you look, a week before Thanksgiving at Birkdale Village in Huntersville. It comes ahead of Birkdale Village's annual Christmas tree lighting and Santa parade.
This is a time for family, friends, and everyone to enjoy the special times of the holiday season.
“We see upwards of 20,000 people here every year and we are excited to welcome them back," Maureen Smith of Birkdale Village said.
In addition to the tree lighting, there will be several other family-friendly activities to enjoy including dance performances, singing, and for the second year -- the chance to skate near the tree at the ice skating rink.
Visitors can walk though Birkdale Village and shop the many stores which will be open during the event as well.
This year’s parade will also feature three new local nonprofits groups, Seasons of Giving Lake Norman, Cool Kids Clubhouse, Down Syndrome Association Charlotte. The three will each have a float in the parade.
“This is a community event," Smith said. "We are so excited to have everyone come out and enjoy.”
The event kicks off Saturday at 2 p.m. and runs until the tree lighting, which occurs sometime before 7 p.m.
