If you receive coupons every month from Valpak, you could be saving money as well as making it. The company is hiding $100 dollar checks inside some envelopes.
Valpak expanded the program nationwide this year to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The company wants you to know the check is real.
250,000 homes in the Charlotte area get Valpak envelopes every month, and six have a $100 check inside.
"They are randomly chosen," Patti Neeley, president of Valpak of Charlotte said. "We have no clue geographically where they are sent, but you have one in 50,000 homes chance to win a check."
If every check is cashed this year, the company will have give $7,200 to consumers around the Queen City.
"It's so simple, once a month the blue Valpak envelope is mailed to your home. We like to drive consumers to open the envelope to see the coupon savings, but we also do it as a give back to our community."
Four out of six recipients during the month of February cashed their check in Charlotte.
"I think the funniest I heard was this guy screaming, 'we love you, we love you!'" said Neeley.
Don’t worry, none of your information is used. But some recipients are skeptical and either don't cash it or never see it.
"You literally just take the check to the bank, cash it and go enjoy dinner on us. March's envelopes went home last week, so if you still have it, I would highly suggest you open it and see if you are a winner," Neeley said.
