'I see potential here' | Amazon coming to Bessemer City and promises to bring jobs

Corporations are picking Gaston County because of its easy access to interstates and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — Gaston County continues to be a hotbed for industrial growth.

Amazon released new information on their plans to build a new 65-acre facility in Bessemer City.

Corporations are picking Gaston County because of its easy access to interstates and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

On Monday, in the heart of downtown Bessemer City, it's quiet, but if you walk into Blossom Bakery and Café, there's excitement.

“I see potential here," co-owner of Blossom Bakery and Café Jonathan Fioritto Jr. said.

Fioritto said small towns go through big changes.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day and this town isn’t just going to develop overnight but it’s going to take more people like myself and my business partner, who believe in the dream of here, who believe that the growth can come here cause this was a thriving town at one time, there’s nothing stopping it, nothing but opportunity," Fioritto said.

Opportunity that Amazon saw as well. Soon Amazon will build a 180,000 square foot delivery station. The site is located at Southridge Pkwy And Gastonia Hwy. An Amazon spokesperson told WCNC Charlotte it will create 150 new full-time jobs for the community.

Fioritto's business has already benefited from the growth in Gaston County and is ready for more.

“We’ve already seen that influx of traffic from when they have the architects come over, the engineers, they do come over here and eat, so I’m already for Amazon," Fiorrito said. “It’s time for these small towns to start shining and be with their true potential.”
