Out of 182 cities considered, Charleston, South Carolina, was the highest-ranked city in the Carolinas. It broke into the top 10, coming in at No. 7.
A few North Carolina cities also made the list. Raleigh was tops at No. 23, while Durham was close behind at No. 26. Charlotte was a bit further down at No. 41.
Looking at the reasoning behind the research, cities were measured in two categories: professional opportunities and quality of life.
Researchers asked questions including how many entry-level jobs were available, what the average starting salary was, how strong workforce diversity was, what the ratio of career counselors was to workers and more.
When comparing average monthly salaries, Durham scored even higher on the list. Once the survey adjusted to today's cost of living, Durham scored as one of the highest on the list.
