CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Black-owned dollar store in Charlotte is celebrating its one-year anniversary Saturday.
Tryon Dollar Store is a neighborhood store where customers are able to shop for everyday needs. Owners Antonio and Andrea Williams said their need to serve customers is what has kept them in business in the midst of a pandemic.

"We've been able to look at the end goal and realize that you know there's a light at the end of the tunnel and also realizing that we have customers that we want to service and provide, you know, excellent products for and they keep a smile on our faces too," Antonio Williams said.
The store is known for its unique selection of items, from cleaning supplies to children's books in multiple languages, with most items clocking in at around 98 cents.
Despite Dollar Tree locations announcing they would raise prices to $1.25, Tryon Dollar Store is remaining consistent with its prices.
"We realize that it's a competitive market," Andrea Williams said. "We have to kind of stay in the game but want to get a little edge you know. Family Dollars are great stores, but you know, there are things that we offer that are unique, you know, unique items and also our service, our customer service, so you can't put a price on that."
The Williams' said they look forward to continuing to serve customers in the Charlotte area, always putting quality first.
You can go into some stores and the quality may not be there, but we stand behind a lot of them, Antonio Williams said. "So, you know, with that it's been a learning experience. And we've grown quite a bit from it."
