CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Buckle announced it will be closing its retail store at Northlake Mall, becoming the latest major brand to stop doing business at the north Charlotte shopping center.
Buckle's website says its Northlake Mall store will close at the end of the day on Sunday, March 26.
The company's decision to close the Northlake location comes less than a month after Apple abruptly shut down its shop at Northlake. Apple said it would shift all Northlake employees to its existing store at SouthPark Mall with plans to open another store in Charlotte by early 2024.
Northlake Mall has experienced three shootings since December. The most recent incident happened outside Macy's and remains under investigation. In response, Northlake Mall announced plans to implement new security measures to ensure the safety of shoppers and employees.
Sam Nehme with NOA Living has been in the Northlake Mall for a little over three months. He said following the recent closure of Apple and the safety incidents, he has seen less business.
"A lot less customers," Nehme said. "We chose this area because of how close the Apple store was."
He said he has seen Northlake Mall take the appropriate steps to insure safety.
"We see police officers walking through mall and hope people give it another chance," Nehme said.
