Charlotte No. 10 large US city for recent college graduates: Study

The Queen City's growing reputation as a tech hub is attracting young professionals ready to start their careers.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte was ranked in the top 10 for American cities to start a career after college, according to a new study

Researchers for the real estate tech company CoworkingCafe found the Queen City is doing better in 2024 than last year thanks to its low cost of living compared to other major cities. Factors in the study include employment opportunities, financial health and lifestyle quality.

Charlotte ranked No. 10 in this year's list. Researchers say Charlotte's cost of living is 3.1% below the national average, making the Queen City more affordable for new college graduates supporting themselves.

Another factor boosting Charlotte's score is the percentage of college graduates. The study found that 43.1% of the population has a bachelor's degree and a median income of $69,901 for college graduates.

Perhaps the best reason young professionals are moving to Charlotte? It's easy to find a job. The study found that the unemployment rate among people ages 20-29 is just 4%, which is better or on par with Atlanta, Seattle, Austin and Kansas City.
