CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spooky season is upon us and many of you have likely started shopping for Halloween costumes, candy and decorations.

No one wants to pay more than they have to for something so let’s dig into the tips from the Better Business Bureau.

WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to WCNC Charlotte by emailing money@wcnc.com.

1.  LOOK AROUND YOUR HOME

Check your closets and your drawers. there are probably some hidden surprises that could help you throw together a great costume.

2. RENT A COSTUME

We know the idea of spending a lot of money on a costume you’ll likely only wear once is not your idea of fun. Researching rental companies on the BBB is a great way to save a quick buck. Make sure you check the rental agreement before signing anything.

3. SHOP SMART ONLINE

When shopping from an online website, always check to make sure the URL starts with HTTPS and includes a lock symbol. The s in HTTPS stands for secure.

The BBB also suggests shoppers use their credit cards when shopping online. Not only do they provide more protection, it's also easier to dispute a fraudulent charge.

4. CHECK SEASONAL STORES

And finally check seasonal stores. If you decide to shop at a seasonal store, make sure you ask how long they plan to stay open after the holidays and if they will accept returns after Halloween.
