CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you've been to the grocery store lately, you know, prices have skyrocketed. In fact, data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows, in general, the price of food has increased by 10.4% in the past year.
In fact, of the more than 100 grocery items tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only a handful are less expensive right now than they were last year and all of them are meat products.
Here are the five products costing you less right now, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
- Beef & veal: -3.1%
- Uncooked beef roasts: -3.5%
- Uncooked beef steaks: -5.4%
- Bacon and related products: -3.7%
- Pork products including roasts, steak & ribs: -1.8%
If you want to take advantage of the lower prices by buying in bulk, you’re in luck.

According to the USDA, most meat can be eaten for up to a year after freezing it without compromising its quality. Freezing meat raw is recommended in order to maintain moisture.
